What is going wrong

It does not wash, and the dishes come out greasy

The holes in the spray arms close up, the filter underneath fills, or the water does not heat. Detergent left dry in the drawer is a clue, not the only cause.

Water sits in the bottom

The pump that drains the water is not working, the hose is crushed behind the unit, or a piece of glass has jammed the impeller. Do not start it again to test it. The water spreads under the kitchen units.

It leaks under the door

It may be the door seal, a cracked detergent drawer, or too much foam from the wrong detergent. Water that seeps out quietly at the end of the programme is a different fault from water that sprays during the wash.

It does not take water in

The inlet valve, the strainer on the tap, or the hose safety device that shut after an old leak. The kitchen has water. The machine does not.

A strong smell

Food left in a filter that has not been taken out for months. We clean it with you and show you how. On some models, if the blade that grinds the waste is broken, cleaning is not enough.

The dishes come out wet

That does not always mean the drying has failed. The rinse aid may be missing, the heating element may have disconnected, or the fan may not be running. White marks on glasses come from limescale, not from a failed pump.

Noise during the wash

A scrape or a roar while it is washing, not while it is draining. Something has caught the pump impeller, or the pump itself is worn.

It will not switch on, and the door does not click

The door latch is worn. Without that click, the machine will not let the water in. That is a different fault from a dark display, which comes from the fuse.
